Gurgaon, May 20 2016 : Whirlpool of India, a subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation, the world's leading home appliance company, today announced strong operating results for the fourth quarter of 2015-16. Total income of Rs.860 Cr. grew by 10.9% and Profit after Tax at Rs 67.8 Cr. was higher by 22.7% over the same quarter last year.

Higher sales fuelled by Airconditioner and Refrigerator demand and better cost productivity contributed to the quarter's results. The company continues to remain debt free and cash positive. EPS of Rs. 5.34 was significantly higher than Rs. 4.36 posted in the same quarter last year.

Mr. Arvind Uppal, Chairman Whirlpool of India Limited and President Asia Pacific, Whirlpool Corporation said, "We are starting to see a momentum change on the growth side, with an improvement across key financial levers like profitability and cash. While growth is still very much an urban phenomenon good monsoons will be a game changer for rural demand. We remain bullish on the business in India."

Lucknow, March 22, 2016: Whirlpool of India celebrated World Water Day by donating water purifiers to Human Unity Movement (HUM), a voluntary organization today. Whirlpool of India, a subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation, the world's leading home appliance company has taken this initiative with an aim to save children from water-borne diseases.

A special awareness program for children was conducted by the officials of Whirlpool of India highlighting the importance of drinking pure water. They also encouraged children to save nature's most precious resource and informed them about various water contaminated diseases.

"Access to pure water is everyone's right, and children are more prone to water-borne diseases," said Kapil Agarwal, Vice President, Marketing, and Whirlpool of India. "Installation of these water purifiers will provide clean water to the children's which will help in minimizing health risks by curbing diseases like diarrhea and jaundice."

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. A Natrajan, Business Head, New Business Unit, Whirlpool of India said, "As most of the easily communicable, but dreaded diseases spread only through drinking water, we have decided to donate water purifiers to Human Unity Movement (HUM) considering the importance of providing purified water to the children community. This is just our first step and we hope to reach out to many more children."

"The purpose of this program is to help spreading awareness amongst children on safe drinking water as they are more prone to water borne diseases," said Dr Kuldeep Verma, while conducting the workshop. "About 70%-80% of various human diseases are related to waterborne diseases due to lack of proper sanitation and safe drinking water. We need to ensure more sustainable and safe usage of drinking water. I am glad that corporates like Whirlpool are taking initiative in this direction."

Gurgaon, May 20 2015: Whirlpool of India, a subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation, the world's leading home appliance company, today announced strong operating results for the fourth quarter of 2014-15. Total income of Rs. 776.6 Cr. grew by 16.4% and Profit after Tax at Rs. 55.3 Cr. was higher by 55.5% over the same quarter last year. EBITDA margin at 12.0% was better by 1.8 points than the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.

Total income for the financial year 2014-15 stood at Rs 3,294 Cr, a growth of 16.2%. EBITDA margin saw a 2.8% improvement over the previous year. The company continues to remain debt free with a record cash surplus of Rs 536 Cr. EPS of 16.60 was the company's best ever and significantly higher than Rs 9.60 posted last year.

Mr. Arvind Uppal, Chairman Whirlpool of India Limited and President Asia Pacific, Whirlpool Corporation said, "We delivered strong results in the 4th quarter driven by both top line growth and moderation in input costs. The impact of unseasonal weather conditions is likely to moderate demand in semi urban and rural areas, but we remain optimistic that growth will accelerate in the second half of the year."

Whirlpool has launched a new range of air conditioners and refrigerators for the summer. It has also increased its in-shop presence across the country, with the intention of growing categories such as Air Conditioners, Microwaves and Water Purifiers. Its premium Built In appliances, sold through the kitchen manufacturer channel, is also expanding its footprint across the country.

Total income of Rs. 721.4 Cr. grew by 7.2% and Profit after Tax at Rs 31.5 Cr. was higher by 48.6% over the same quarter last year.

EBITDA margin at 8.9% was better by 2.2 points. The company continues to remain debt free and cash positive. EPS of 2.49 was significantly higher than 1.67 posted in the same quarter last year.

Improved product, mix and cost productivity helped offset the softness in demand post Diwali. Had a stellar Q1, but may not sustain margins: Whirlpool

The consumer durables firm reported a 67.37 percent increase in its standalone net profit at Rs 83 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, on robust operating margins.

Shantanu Dasgupta, vice president-Corporate Affairs & Strategy-Asia South, Whirlpool says the company saw a stellar Q1 as its volume growth was in high single digits . This is even more remarkable as the company saw volumes growing for the first time in six months.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Dasgupta says the price hikes taken by the company too aided its topline.

THowever, concerns still persist for the washing machine manufacturer.

"High interest rates and sluggish consumer demand is still taking its toll on sales. We are hoping to see the benefits of festive sales in the subsequent quarters, but we may not be able to sustain margins similar to Q1," he further adds.

Whirlpool prides itself in being a 'home appliance specialist, and has a strong presence in 4 home appliance categories - Refrigerators, Washing Machines, Air Conditioners, and Microwaves. With the market share for the year 2013; Direct Cool Refrigerators holds 19%, 15% for Frost Free Refrigerators, 15% for Washing Machines, ~6% for Microwaves and ~4% for Air Conditioners; there are two prongs to Whirlpool's growth strategy. While the first is to grow revenue and market share of their core categories of Refrigerators, Washing Machines, Air Conditioners and Microwaves; the second is to accelerate the growth of their new businesses of Built In and Water Purifiers.

"In a low penetrated market such as India, we see enormous opportunity for sustained profitable growth, especially for a brand with high awareness, a pan-India distribution and service network, a credible track record of consumer relevant innovations in product and services, a sound talent base and a strong balance sheet. The capabilities and competencies acquired over the years and the advantages we derive from being a subsidiary of the world's # 1 home appliance brand, positions us well to achieve our growth ambitions", he elaborated.

Adding further he said, "We have an enviable product range of products in Built-In that are segmented by features and price: Glamour at the very high end, Ambient in the middle and Genesis for the value conscious. These products imported from Whirlpool's European facility and are therefore world-class in terms of performance and styling. Our business model is to sell through kitchen manufacturers. We have developed partnerships with >200 such across the country. Sales and Service functions report to one unit manager to provide the best customer experience. In NCR, we have started a new initiative to send a qualified chef from International Institute of Culinary Arts, New Delhi to provide a cooking demonstration to consumers who buy our Built In ovens, and our intention is to expand this to other major cities".

In Water Purifiers, with a range of products with Reverse Osmosis technology in different formats and capacities, the company has recently expanded to other technologies and price points and by the end of this year will launch a product that is comparable to RO in purification, safer in terms of retention of essential minerals, at half the price of an RO. The business model for Water too is slightly different as they are leveraging their extensive network of service partners to sell directly to consumers.

Recently, Whirlpool of India and Something's Cooking Culinary Arts Pvt. Ltd are organizing Kitchen Wars which is the first of its kind corporate culinary contest. Armoured with spatula, pans and aprons, Kitchen Wars will peg corporate leaders and teams against each other for the first time in the kitchen. Kapur believes that the current sluggishness in demand will continue for another 18-24 months, and this is linked to the economic challenges facing the country. The vast majority who do not own appliances will be looking at affordable price points. At the other end of the spectrum is a small but growing population who want the very best on offer. And of course there is the vast middle class. Hence, for appliance players, there is room for growth in every segment - entry, mid and premium. : Whirlpool, manufacturer and marketer of home appliances, will organise Kitchen Wars - a cooking competition pitting 32 six-member teams representing corporate houses against each other - in Bengaluru on three weekends, between July 12 and 26, 2014.

It would comprise chefs Jolly and Daniel and the Michelin-starred chef Bruno Ferrari of J W Marriott, Bengaluru. They would be present at every round, and would be joined in the final by Singapore's Christophe Megel.

The winner of the competition would win an all-expenses-paid trip to Bangkok for three nights and four days. It would include a wokshop/demonstration on French cuisine/pastry/Thai cuisine/food and wine pairing.

The first and second runners-up would receive Kitchen Aid appliances worth Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively. The key objective is to enable companies to come together, bond over cooking and foster social interaction.

"Although we limited the participation of corporate houses in Bengaluru, the response is good," said Shantanu Das Gupta, vice-president, vice-president, corporate affairs and strategy, Asia South, Whirlpool.

"Each team requires a leader, who could either be the chief executive officer, the chief financial officer or the head of sales/marketing," he added, stating that Whirlpool Built-in appliances were for the kitchen, and the primary association with the kitchen is cooking.

"A culinary event of this mature helps showcase the latest innovations from Whirlpool, while establishing a connect between the brand and the participant's passion for cooking," Das Gupta added.

Something's Cooking Culinary Arts Pvt Ltd is a studio fitted with kitchen equipment founded Satish Venkatachaliah. It is a training institute, which would offer the teams its eight cooking workstations.

New Delhi, August 13, 2013: Whirlpool of India, a subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation, the World's No.1 Home Appliance Company today announced its 1st Quarter earnings at Rs. 49.59 Crore in profit after tax (PAT) with an EBITDA of 10%. Profit was impacted by unprecedented pressure on cost leading to PAT being lower than what was recorded in the corresponding quarter last fiscal (Rs 64.6 Cr).

Whirlpool's total turnover (Net Sales & Other Operating income) was marginally down at Rs. 881 Crore impacted by contraction in consumer demand. This compares favourably with the decline in the appliance industry where demand is down by an estimated 15-20%. As a result, the company has in the course of the year strengthened its market share in its core categories of refrigerators and washing machines by 2.8 points.

Mr.Arvind Uppal, Chairman and Managing Director, Whirlpool of India Limited and President South Asia and Asia Pacific, Whirlpool Corporation said "We are pleased with our performance given the conflicting pressures of softening demand and high inflation. With the weakening of the Rupee these pressures are expected to continue. We have increased our focus on innovation and productivity improvements to drive market share and lower cost."

New Delhi, October 30, 2012: Whirlpool of India, the subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation, the World's No.1 Home Appliance Company today announced a Net Profit of Rs 28.4 Cr in for the July-September quarter, a growth of 97% over the corresponding quarter last year (Rs 14.4 Cr).

Whirlpool's total turnover (Net Sales & Other Operating income) grew to Rs 633.2 Cr, a growth of 9.7% over Rs. 577.1 Cr recorded in the corresponding period last fiscal. The company has recorded an EBIDTA margin of 8.7% in the quarter. The EBIDTA margin in the corresponding quarter last fiscal year was 7.2 %.

The company's strong innovation agenda which saw a large number of new products being launched in the previous quarter contributed to top line growth, bucking the trend of a declining market.

Mumbai : Hon'ble High Court of Mumbai dismissed Videocon appeal in the injunction order thereby restraining Videocon Industries from marketing their washing machine under the brand name 'Pebble' which is a clear imitation of Whirlpool's ACE washing machine.

Mumbai, August 14: Hon'ble High Court of Mumbai dismissed Videocon appeal in the injunction order thereby restraining Videocon Industries from marketing their washing machine under the brand name 'Pebble' which is a clear imitation of Whirlpool's ACE washing machine.

Employing the test of being solely judged by eye, the court found both the machines to be extremely similar. It was observed that the shape and configuration of the Whirlpool's washing machine can be clearly seen in the machine marketed by Videocon. The design registered by Whirlpool which has distinctive boat shape appearance is also found in the washing machine marketed by Videocon. Judging by the eye the designs of the two washing machines are similar and that even an average buyer will feel so.

It was further observed that there was real and cogent likelihood of consumers getting deceived by similarity in designs and the action for passing off is also made out. The learned trial Judge also noted that the product marketed by Videocon is much cheaper than the one marketed by Whirlpool under its registered design.

Exercising appellate jurisdiction over the discretionary order passed by the trial Judge, who also applied the same test and came to the conclusion that the products are similar and action of infringement and passing off has been made.

It was established that Videocon infringed a registered design (Nos. 223833 and 223835) granted in favour of Whirlpool of India, a subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation which is the world's # 1 manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances. The registrations by Whirlpool are in force for a period of 10 years from 15th July, 2009, to be further extended for additional period of 5 years thereafter.

Whirlpool had launched its Ace Washer in September 2010 and Videocon launched its Pebble semi automatic washing machine in June 2012 with substantially similar design of semi circular wash area and square spin area at a comparatively lower price. Whirlpool Ace washer is the best selling model in semi automatic washer category since its launch. This design has proved to be a runaway success, so much so that in a short span of around one and half years almost three lakh machines are sold. It is a thoughtfully designed iconic product that blends both form and functionality redefining the Indian semi-automatic washing machine segment.

New Delhi, August 6, 2012: Whirlpool of India, the subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation, the World's No.1 Home Appliance Company today announced its highest ever 1st Quarter earnings of all time at Rs. 64.6 Crore in profit after tax (PAT) representing a record quarter of profit.

Whirlpool's total turnover (Net sales & Other Operating income) grew to Rs. 893.3 Crore, a growth of 9.8% over Rs. 814.1 Crore recorded in the corresponding period last fiscal. The company has recorded an EBIDTA margin of 11.9% in the quarter. The EBIDTA margin in the corresponding quarter (Apr-Jun FY 2011-12) was 10.7%.

The company's strong position across customer segments resulted in sales volume growth of more than 5% during the quarter, bucking the trend of a declining market.

Commencing on September 15 2011, this promotion will run on an all India basis until October 31, 2011.
'Sab ka Jashn Sab ki Jeet' is sure to generate a lot of excitement for Whirlpool consumers during the festival season. The company is offering a cash voucher from Yatra.com worth Rs 2300 as an assured gift to its customers on every purchase of a Whirlpool appliance. The voucher will entitle the customers to avail a discount of upto Rs 1,000 on flight bookings and Rs 1,300 on Hotel bookings through Yatra.com. The vouchers can be redeemed until 31st March 2012 for travel and stay till 30th September 2012, allowing consumers sufficient time to plan their vacation.

Additionally, Whirlpool is also offering a sumptuous discount of 40% on Whirlpool air conditioners to 25,000 lucky customers who will be chosen through a scratch card.

Whirlpool India has also launched a series of products in sync with the festival season. The company has launched new models in top loading washing machines with 2 capacity points 7kg and 7.2kg and front loading in 5.5kg capacity. The all new 360° Bloom Wash, the washing machine with radically different washing technology, has been launched as a part of festive as well as Whirlpool Corporation's 100 years celebration. Also 'Whirlpool ACE washstation' has been introduced at a new lower capacity point of 6.8kg. Whirlpool has also launched new models in Microwave Grill and Convection segment and new colour finishes and capacity points in its Refrigerator range.

As a part of the consumer promotion, the company would be giving away gifts worth Rs.150 Cr during the festive season. The Diwali promotion and the newly launched products will be supported in print and radio and through a host of innovative activities such as OOH, Digital & Outdoors. The total advertising and marketing spend earmarked for the Diwali promotion this year is in the range of Rs. 12-15 crores.

Trichur, August 17, 2010: Celebrating 99-years of creating happier homes this Onam, Whirlpool of India joined hands with the children from Goonj and the people of Kerala to create history and enter into the 'Limca Book of Records' with the world's largest Pookalam or Floral carpet.

The grand fanfare saw enthusiastic participation from Whirlpool, numerous children supported by the NGO Goonj and people of Kerala who turned up in large numbers to be a part of this momentous occasion. The 'record-breaking' 14,400 sq ft Pooklam was created in 3-hours using 12.5 tons of fresh flowers in the presence of the officials from the Limca Book of World Records.

New Delhi, April 21, 2010: Whirlpool of India, a subsidiary of the Whirlpool Corporation, World's No.1 Home Appliance Company today launched six new models of convection Microwave Ovens (MWOs) as a part of its Jet Chef and Family Chef Collection.

Continuing with its revolutionary design and advanced technology offering, Whirlpool's new microwaves feature many top-of-the-line functions that combine innovative functionality with superior technology to meet the needs of the modern homemaker. The microwave ovens feature highlights like the "first-ever" Magiclean, a unique non-stick surface coating for MWO cavity that ensures hassle-free cleaning and the Microtawa that allows for cooking of crispy meals. Further enhancing efficiency are the Dual Emission system and the Forced Air Convection System functions that make the Jet Chef and the Family Chef the Best In Class cooking platform.

Differentiating the MWOs are their unique Whirlpool invented functions like the Jet Defrost system that allows for defrosting up to 7 times faster than the conventional microwave ovens and the Special Crisp System, another distinctive Whirlpool invention, with its '3-heat sources in one' feature allowing even and healthy cooking, without the danger of burning. The 3D revolutionary technology provides additional guarantee of a thoroughly and evenly cooked food through its even distribution of the microwave energy within the cooking cavity.

The products, in the in price range of Rs.10,990 to Rs.18,590, are available in capacities of 25L, 27L, 30L and 31L in White, Black and Silver colours. All these new MWOs are available across all Whirlpool dealer outlets across the country.

New Delhi, January 14, 2010: Whirlpool of India, a subsidiary of the Whirlpool Corporation, global manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances today announced aggressive plans for growth in the AC category as it launched a new range in India. The company has launched 30 new products in two sub-brands Mastermind Chrome and Mastermind Aviator. The new range with several unique and premium features is aimed at giving a boost to Whirlpool in the AC category.

The Mastermind series of Air-conditioners has been designed keeping the requirements of consumers in mind. It is an intelligent AC meant to provide the perfect cooling experience without burning a hole in the consumers pocket.

The Aviator and Chrome series are best-in-class energy efficient machines and will be made available in 3 and 5 star BEE ratings only. They have a host of unique intelligent features not available elsewhere that include -(a) India's first sliding panel - The moving panel also ensures greater air flow leading to better cooling, and also protects the internal electronics and the LED panel from dust and other hazards, (b) Advanced 6th sense MPFI- a unique 4 in 4 out capillary design to give fast, powerful, energy efficient cooling, (c) 30 min fast forward cool system - gives very powerful cooling during the first 30 mins of running to give relief to the consumer when he walks in from the heat outside, (d) Aroma Pure System- a scientific combination of filters that
removes dust, bacteria and gives a refreshing aroma to the air thereby giving a clean and hygienic environment.

This new range of aesthetically advanced AC's with moving panel are not only glamorous but add to the decor of the room.

In line with its aggressive plans to rapidly augment its share in the AC segment, Whirlpool will expand footprints beyond metro and mini metro cities. The company plans to rope in around 1,500 dealers in more than 200 cities by the end of 2010. In order to ensure a smooth purchase and ownership experience for the customers Whirlpool plans to add around 300 service outlets and 700 exclusive retail manpower.

Commenting on the company's aggressive plans for the category Mr. Shantanu Dasgupta, Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Strategy, Asia South, Whirlpool of India said, "AC segment will be a core growth engine for Whirlpool in the next 4-5 years. We are targeting 15% market share and an increase in volumes by three times in 2010."

"Our aggressive strategy for ACs will be supported by increase in marketing activities for which we have earmarked 10 crore which is 6 times more than current spends on the category. The newly launched products will be supported by a multi-media campaign including above the line - advertising featuring brand ambassadors and a host of below the line activities such as innovative marketing tie-ups, in-shop display, promotions, direct marketing, product demonstrations and workshops", said Shahzad Akhtar, Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Exports, Whirlpool of India Ltd.

Mastermind Chrome and Mastermind Aviator will be available in 5 colors - Sapphire blue, Coral red, Onyx black, Pearl white, Metallic silver and are priced in the range between Rs 23000 to 33000 for Mastermind Aviator and Rs. 21000 to Rs. 33000 for Mastermind Chrome. The Mastermind range of Window Air-conditioners will come with a new look and priced from Rs 14000 to Rs 21000.
